Wet Digestion Methods

چکیده
Sample preparation is the critical step of any analytical protocol, and involves steps from simple dilution to partial or total digestion. The present review focuses on wet digestion methods used for solid and liquid sample pre-treatment. The methods include wet decomposition and dissolution of the organic and inorganic samples, in open and closed systems, using thermal and radiant (ultraviolet and microwave) energy. The present and future tendencies for sample preparation also involve on-line decomposition and vapor-phase acid digestion. The intent is not to present the procedural details for the various samples, but rather to highlight the methods which are unique to each instrumental technique exist for the elemental analysis. The advantages and disadvantages of the various wet digestion methods have been emphasized. The bibliography accompanying this review should aid the analytical chemist in his/her search for the detailed preparation protocols.

Comparison of Digestion Methods for the Determination of Trace Elements and Heavy Metals in Human Hair and Nails.
BACKGROUND Microwave is the most reliable sample digestion method. However, it requires expensive microwave digester automation and has relatively low productivity. In this study, three non-automated digestion methods, i.e. wet acid digestion using nitric acid (HNO3) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), wet acid digestion using HNO3, and dry washing, are compared in order to determine the best approac...
متن کاملArsenic and antimony determination in refined and unrefined table salts by means of hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry–comparison of sample decomposition and determination methods
An evaluation was made of different digestion methods for the determination of arsenic and antimony in table salt samples prior to hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometric analysis. Microwave acid digestion, classical wet digestion, dry ashing, and fusion were applied to the decomposition of salt samples and optimum conditions were investigated. Samples were decomposed by changing hea...
متن کاملComparison of two methods for destruction of biological material for determination of selenium.
The purpose of the study was to compare two methods for destruction of biological material for selenium (Se) analysis: wet digestion by conductive heating in programmed digestion block and digestion in microwave oven. In both methods samples were prepared in a closed system using nitric acid. Selenium was analysed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The results have shown that bot...
متن کاملImpact of different particle size distributions on anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste.
Particle size may significantly affect the speed and stability of anaerobic digestion, and matching the choice of particle size reduction equipment to digester type can thus determine the success or failure of the process. In the current research the organic fraction of municipal solid waste was processed using a combination of a shear shredder, rotary cutter and wet macerator to produce stream...

Five sample digestion procedures were evaluated for the determination of Al, B, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, S, Sr, and Zn in food samples by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The 5 procedures include dry ashing at 500 degrees C, wet digestion with HNO3-HClO4, microwave digestion with HNO3, microwave digestion with HNO3-H2O2, and microwave digestion with HNO3-H2O2-HF.
